TRABANT

The Trabant was an East German automobile manufactured from 1957 to 1991. During the communist occupation of Poland , Trabant autos, or "Trabbies," were a common sight. Don't believe the hype: despite the bad reputation that follows these cars, they are actually quite reliable. Even though they are generally run-down and exude a communist vibe, people waited years to purchase such cars. The first German car with a plastic body, the price was relatively cheap. The first cars delivered 25 horsepower from a modest two-stroke engine, ripping from 0-100 kph in just under 22 seconds! The famous two-stroke Trabant 601 remained in production for almost thirty years, with very few updates. When a new model, the 1100, arrived featuring a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine from the VW Polo, it was too late. The factory was close to collapse, thanks to typical Communist mismanagement; the Berlin Wall came down; and in 1991 the Trabant passed into history. They were so cheap that after bette r cars became available, Trabants were routinely given away for free and actually used as crazy props on stage during U2's "Achtung Baby" tour.

Our Crazy Trabants are authentic East German automobiles, complete with the craziest seat covers and paint job you have ever seen!

POLSKI (POLISH) FIAT 125

In 1965 a deal with FIAT was signed which gave FSO (Passenger Automobile Factory) in Warsaw, Poland a license to not only to produce the Fiat 125 but also to use its components for developing new versions of it or in the construction of other automobiles. The first Polski (Polish) Fiat 125p, as it was known, rolled off the assembly line in 1967 (the same year that Italian 125 production ceased). After years of countless modifications and 2 name changes (FSO 1500 and then FSO 125p), the manufacture of it ended in 1991, when the 1,444,791th one left the factory. Many variations of the 125p were available, including a station wagon, ambulance, and pick-up.

The Polski Fiat 125p also had some success in sporting events, especially in rallying, in the country and abroad. Some of the best known Polish competition drivers, such as Sobieslaw Zasada, took part in rallies in Monte Carlo (where 1st place in the 1600cc class was attained in 1972) and numerous other locations. In 1973 three endurance records for series-production cars over the distances 25000km, 25000mi, 50000km were beaten.

NYSA 522 Van

   NOW UNAVAILABLE!
Mainly used as an army transport vehicle, the Nysa 522 vans were produced in Nysa, Poland from the late 1950s to the early 1990s. Hardly any noticeable improvements had been made during its 30 year existence. Instantly recognizable because of their distinct shade of blue paint, the vans are closely associated with "Milicja" - Polish police forces during Communist era. The Nysa disappeared as suddenly as the Communist government. As with the Trabant, the Nysa was quickly replaced by modern, faster vans. Nysa's were sold off in bulk to farmers who did not mind a single side door(designed as an easy exit for the Milicja).

In our Crazy Nysa 522, you can imagine patrolling the streets of Nowa Huta communist district as a member of the dreaded "ZOMO"( Motorized Reserves of the Citizen's Militia) during Communist era.
